Title       : Learn English Through Story ★ Subtitles: Johannes Gutenberg (Level 2 )

    Level      : 2

 Summary                             :

Johannes Gutenberg was born in the city of Mainz, Germany, around 1398. He was an upscale merchant Friele Genfleisch zur Laden from the giver's wife, Else Wyrich. In 1411, there was an uprising in Mainz, for which Gutenberg had to move to Strasbourg where he lived for 20 years.

To support his life while living in Strasbourg, Gutenberg made items from metal, to produce jewelry from mirrors that were sold to nuns. Until finally, he returned to Mainz and worked as a goldsmith.

The idea for the printing press started when he worked as a goldsmith in Mainz. At that time, he was writing a pardon letter. Finally, Gutenberg made letters out of metal by using black lead to form gothic letters. In the end, they could produce 300 letterforms to complete a continuous hand shape.

After successfully repairing his printing press, Gutenberg began printing the thousands of indulgences that the Catholic church misused for money. In 1952, Gutenberg finally secured a loan from Johann Fust to create a famous Bible printing project. The Bible is also the oldest printed book in the Western world.

Later, Gutenberg printed 200 volumes in the Bible. In small part, the Bible was printed on calf skin (velum). In fact, the combined Bible was very expensive. Not only that, Gutenberg also could not make the Encyclopedia Catholicon of Johannes de Janua. Gutenberg finally died in 1468 and was buried in the Franciscan Church, Mainz.

 What I learned?

He has a strong determination and enthusiasm. Although life only relies on selling metal goods, in fact Johannes Gutenberg could become the inventor of the world's first printing press. Thanks to these findings, Gutenberg has succeeded in becoming one of the people who can give his great work to the world.

What difficulties that I face while listening to the recording ?

I have found no problem with these videos. The words they used was understandable and the speaker clearly said the words.
